Elizabeth Brackman "Lib" Powell

Elizabeth Brackman "Lib" Powell, 94, former resident of Hilltop Drive, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Community Care of Rutherford County. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Deacon Price Keller officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Davidson County native was the 4th of 10 children of the late John Henry Brackman and Annie Duggan Brackman and attended Cathedral High School in Nashville. She was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church and active in the affairs of the parish for many years. Mrs. Powell was a well-known cashier at Piggly-Wiggly and Giant Foods stores for over 40 years and later at Food Lion prior to her retirement. Very devoted to her family, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia Crumley of Murfreesboro and Martha (Jim) Skelley of Montgomery, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Jean Powell of Columbia; 13 grandchildren, Michael Joseph O'Field, James O'Field, Karen Wilson, Kenneth Wilson, Patricia Ann Crumley, Rufus Jackson Crumley, Audra P. Crumley, Robert Oliver Crumley, Leigh Anne Powell, Patrick Forrest Powell, James E. Skelley, Jr., Christopher Adam Skelley, and Benjamin Patrick Skelley; 6 great-grandchildren, Kayla Danielle Crumley, Warren Walker Skelley, Della Powell Shepherd Skelley, Caleb Jackson Crumley, Erin Ashley Wilson, and Kelsey Blair Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Oliver "Ollie" Powell in 1991; sons, Patrick "Butch" Powell in 2007 and Henry Eugene "Gene" Powell in 2001; and a daughter, Mary Ann Powell Davidson in 2001 and all nine of her siblings. Pallbearers are C. T. Johnson, Pete Ridley, and her grandsons.
