Elizabeth Halsey “Bettye” Coffey Sharpton, 76, lifelong resident of Columbia, and wife of Mike Sharpton, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 12, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rev. Chris Bowhay officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Churchyard. The family will visit with friends Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Born September 5, 1947 in Columbia, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John Shelby Coffey II and the late Hellen Norris Smith Coffey. Bettye earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Science from Memphis State, then afterwards attended two years of chiropractor school, and was licensed, though she never practice. She was also a proud member of the Polk Society. On December 5, 1983, she married Mike Sharpton. Bettye was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Michael (Elisa) Sharpton of Columbia; and grandchildren, Michael Langston Sharpton, Ashton Perry, and Maci Perry.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Halsey Sharpton; and brother, John Shelby Coffey III.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Ables, Eddie Hickman, Jimmy Carter, Mark Cook, Mike Dickey, and Ken Bohrman.
