View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Eloise Harlan Stutts Dabney Cheatham, 83, died Saturday, July 3, 2021, in Columbia, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, July 10, 2021, 11:00 A.M. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Reverend Chris Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Friday, July 9 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Eloise was born May 3, 1938 to James Church Harlan and Ducie Mayfield Harlan, who are deceased. She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1956. Eloise earned her undergraduate, masters and education specialist (Ed. S) degrees in education from Middle Tennessee State University. Eloise taught first grade at J. R. Baker elementary school for 17 years then served as principal there for 20 years. Eloise was the founding President of Maury Educators Credit Union, which is now Listerhill Credit Union. She was a member of Leadership Maury and received the Maury County Distinguished Administrator Award for 1998-1999. She was the organist at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 50 years. In addition to being a member of the congregation, she was a former Sunday school teacher and served as an Elder. She is survived by her four children, Gregg (Amy) Dabney of Knoxville, Tennessee; Lynn Dabney of Fernandina Beach, Florida; Dr. Carole Dabney- (Martin) Smith of Oxford, Ohio; and Harlan (Amy) Dabney of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Her surviving grandchildren are Savannah (Chris) McCabe and Rena Dabney of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Allie Dabney of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Sue Harlan of Columbia, Tennessee; stepchildren, Steve (Barb) Cheatham of New Braunfels, Texas; and Scott (Amanda) Cheatham of Gadsden, Alabama; brother-in-law, Ray (Shirley) Cheatham of Summerville, South Carolina; sister-in-law Cathey (Mark) Mayberry of Knoxville, Tennessee; step grandchildren, Sydney Cheatham of Austin, Texas and Cody Cheatham of New Braunfels, Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands William (Billy) Stutts and Larry Cheatham; brothers, Bill Harlan and Pete Harlan; and sister, Irma Harlan. Pallbearers will be Chris McCabe, Sam Nugent, Todd Stutts, Buddy Harlan, James Harlan, Brian Holt, Steven Holt, Oliver Goodman, Alan Romine, Ken Harlan, Hunter Harlan, and Kyle Thurman. Honorary pallbearers include former and present faculty and staff at J.R. Baker Elementary School, members of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mary Eleanor Morrow, Nancy Cartwright, Sandra and Jerry Thurman, Celia Clark, Linda Lester, Margie Owens, Pam White, Elaine Ashley, Patricia Stewart, Jeff and Sarah Smithson, Crystal May, Doug Brown, and Richard Chappell. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1106 Nashville Highway, Columbia, TN 38401.
