View Video Tribute Enloe Looper, 101, retired farmer and resident of Monterey, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Willie Anderson and Rev. Steve Looper officiating. Burial will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery. Born in Overton County, he was the son of the late Billy Looper and Mollie Bowman Looper. Mr. Looper farmed all his life and was well-known for raising and selling sweet potato slips and sweet potatoes. He was an avid horseman and loved showing his Tennessee Walking Horses in numerous shows over the years. He had the distinction of riding in the Hanging Limb Horse Show after his 100th birthday. After his daughter moved to Columbia to make her home, he enjoyed attending Mule Day festivities for several years. He was a member of Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Doug Brown of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Cathy Looper of Springfield; step-grandchildren, Tony Brown of Columbia and Danny (Jenny) Brown of Louisville, Kentucky; step-great-grandchildren, Will Brown and D. J. Brown of Louisville; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Conley Phillips Looper; sisters, Cora Norrod, Laura Roberts, Hallie Looper, and Martha Looper; brother, Tommy Looper, Winton Looper, and Talmadge Looper. Active pallbearers are Hoyt Miller, Marson Roberson, Mike Looper, Raymond Looper, Hobert Hicks, and Donny Roberts. Honorary pallbearers include Puter Melton, and staff of Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center.
