View Video TributeView Funeral WebcastMrs. Esther Culberson Thompson, 87, retired employee of Weather Tamer and longtime resident of the Hilltown Community, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Bowers and Rev. Howard Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Andrews Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Culberson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late William Clarence Culberson and Ada Noveline Miller Culberson. In 1947 she married Jesse E. Thompson who preceded her in death on September 20, 1998. Mrs. Thompson was a 1942 graduate of Santa Fe High School and taught school at Sylvan Heights for a few years. She was also one of the original employees at DuPont in Columbia. Prior to her employment at Weather Tamer, she had worked at Tennessee Knitting Mill and spent six weeks in Puerto Rico with the company. She joined Goshen United Methodist Church on July 31, 1932. Survivors include one son, Roger E. (Jan) Thompson of Columbia; one daughter, Darlene (Brad) Carmella of Hamilton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jeremy Anderson, Emily Anderson, Jennifer Thompson (Mitch) Hulsey; Christopher Thompson, Bradley (Sarah) Carmella; two great grandchildren, Caroline Hulsey and Jeremiah Anderson. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Scott and Aline Ellis; and one brother, Charles Culberson.
