Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at Craft Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. . Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Wednesday from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at the church. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late James Luther Carpenter and Effie Hewitt Carpenter and was a 1947 graduate of Central High School. On May 25, 1947 she married Athel Allen Hickman of Columbia who survives. She had been employed at Storktowne/Weather Tamer. Mrs. Hickman worked in the voter precinct at Highland Park Elementary School, was a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the Wagon Wheelers Square Dancers. She was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband survivors include her daughters, Donna (Tommy) Briggs of Florence, Alabama, Paula (Glenn) Brewer of Columbia; son, Eddie (Sheila) Hickman of Columbia; grandchildren, Burt (Amy) Briggs, Troy (Judith) Briggs, Donya Briggs (Brad) Scott, Sarah Elizabeth (Sean) Hickman-McLeod, Gina Brewer (Ricky) Randall, Dustin Brewer; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Bart Briggs, sisters, Elaine Prince, Mary Crump, Nora Cole and brother, J.L. Carpenter. Active pallbearers will be Burt Briggs, Troy Briggs, Brad Scott, Sean McLeod, Ricky Randall and Dustin Brewer. Honorary pallbearers include Billy Andrews, Robert Whitaker, Joe Ramirez, Johnny Prince, Richard Prince, Roger Prince, Randell Dooley, Joe West, Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Ben Gardner, 1947 Class of Central High School, and members of the James Underwood Sunday School Class. The family wishes to extend special thanks to our loving caregivers, Rhonda West, Kim Moss, Ann Hendrix, Terri Lynn Massey, Mandi Lewis and Christy Reese.
