View Funeral Webcast Everett Akin Grimmitt, 83, retired owner and operator of Grimmitt Home Inspections and resident of Columbia, died Monday, May 22, 2023 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born February 9, 1940 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Brown Cathey Grimmitt and the late Margaret Akin Grimmitt. On March 21, 1992, he married Dorothy Christine “Dot” Curry Grimmitt who preceded him in death December 24, 2022. He served in the United States Army. After retirement, Mr. Grimmitt enjoyed farming. He was a member of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ and had attended Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include his step-son, Tim (Debbie) Flowers of Hampshire; step-daughter, Pam Flowers of Columbia; grandchildren, Katie Flowers and Scottie Rummage; brother, Danny Wayne (Joyce) Grimmitt of North Carolina; sister, Margaret Ann Grimmitt (Jimmy) Adcox of Jonesboro, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Gilliam Grimmitt of Hampshire; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Olivia) Curry of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Leroy Grimmitt and Bobby Brown Grimmitt. Active pallbearers will be Drew Grimmitt, Seth Grimmitt, Lee Grimmitt, Jon Adcox, Jay Adcox, and Scottie Rummage. Honorary pallbearers include Darrell Potts, members of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ, Hampshire Men’s Club, By Pass Coffee Drinkers, and D.O.U. Campers Club.
