Floyd Ray Vandiver

View Video Tribute Mr. Floyd Ray Vandiver, 84, resident of Campbellsville Pike, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lewis County native was the son of the late Walter R. Vandiver and Carlene Lovell Vandiver. He was first married to Loraine Locke Vandiver who preceded him in death in 1982 and on April 1, 1983 married Faye Moore Vandiver of Columbia who survives. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Tennessee Technological University and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Vandiver was employed by E. I. DuPont in employee relations and then Spontex where he was Vice President General Manager. He was an avid gardner and animal lover, former member of the Maury County Rose Society, present member of the Nashville Rose Society and a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He preached for many years with his last congregation being the Greenfield Bend church of Christ where he preached for six years. He was presently a member of Graymere church of Christ. In addition to his wife he is survived by children, Resa (Hollis) Carpenter, Kendall Vandiver, Sr. both of Columbia, Phillip (Suzie) Vandiver of Murfreesboro, Brenda (Phil) Wenk of Brentwood and Jim (Vicki) Wilhoite of Gainesville, Georgia; sister, Helen (Harold) Williams of Cookeville; grandchildren, Andrea (Scott) Hardy, Alan (Barbie) Wenk both of Brentwood; Holly Vandiver, Heather Vandiver both of Murfreesboro, Molly Carpenter, Erica Vandiver, Kendall Locke Vandiver, Jr., Tristan Vandiver all of Columbia, Jay Wilhoite of Gainesville, Georgia, Peyton Wilhoite of Georgia; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Hardy, Philip Wenk, and Maggie Wenk all of Brentwood. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ben Gardner, Dr. C. Houston Jameson, the staff of NHC Columbia and the staff of Maury Regional Medical Center Oncology Floor for the extraordinary care. Serving as active pallbearers are Kendall Vandiver, Jr., Tristan Vandiver, Jay Wilhoite, Peyton Wilhoite, Dennis Stephen, Scott Hardy and Alan Wenk. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy and Mary Martin, David and Rubye Westmoreland, David and Nancee Glasgow and Jim and Jan Reason.
