Mary Frances Brown Maxwell, 81, retired switchboard operator at Maury Regional Medical Center and resident of Knud Drive, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Joe Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 21, 1933 in the Spring Hill Community in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late David M. Brown, Sr. and Mattie I. Givens Brown. She was a member of the 1952 graduating class at Santa Fe High School. In 1953, she began working for Bell South Telephone and later at Maury Regional Medical Center as switchboard operator until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Maxwell was a homemaker who took pride in a neat home and was an excellent cook who enjoyed baking sweets and sharing them with her friends and neighbors. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. Always willing to help a friend in need, she was a charter member of the Meals on Wheels program. As a young adult in Nashville, she was a member of Woodbine United Methodist Church. When she moved to Columbia, she placed her membership with Riverside United Methodist Church and in 1968 began residing in the Santa Fe Community and moved her membership to Santa Fe United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sons, Barry (Debra) Gidcomb of Columbia and Larry Gidcomb of Nashville; grandson, Matthew Gidcomb of Lexington, Kentucky; sisters, Lois Culberson of Nashville and Betty (Robert) Fox of Columbia; special niece and nephew, Brenda and Edward Gregg of Nashville; several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-one years, Charles Ralph Maxwell; sisters, Linda Fay Brown and Ann Fisher; brother, David Brown, Jr., and brother-in-law, Gene Culberson. Active pallbearers are Edward Gregg, Randy Walters, Jimmy Culberson, Brad Gregg, Randy Maxwell, Norman Harris, J. W. Shouse, and Marlin Arnold. Honorary pallbearers include Margaret Harris, Dale and Betty Hill, Salene Walters, Jewell Shouse, Buddy Martin, Jennifer Martin, Mary Ann Brown, Ed and Betty Lucas, Henry Harris, Clyde Skelley, members of Santa Fe United Methodist Church, Santa Fe High School Class of 1952, Dr. Hrishi Kanth and staff, Dr. Janice Vinson and staff, staff at The Bridge of Columbia and Life Care Center of Columbia, and Aid & Assist..
