Edna Frances Bell Spence, resident of Eclectic, Alabama died Sunday, March 13, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 44 years, Lt. Col. (USAF Ret) Claude Pierce Spence. She is survived by a daughter, Claudia Spence Jack (Billy C. Jack deceased) of Columbia, and a son, Lt. Col (USAF Ret) David R. and wife Julianne Spence of Montgomery, Al. and loving grandchildren. She attended Richmond Academy Junior College in Augusta, GA. and graduated from Georgia Business School of Commerce in Macon, GA. She was an active servant of the community. She was a founding member of the Elmore County Art Guild and held an officer's role until the most recent years. She was a volunteer at the Eclectic Elementary School for more than 20 years and was nominated for State Volunteer of the Year. Born in Macon, GA. in 1921, she was a model of selfless community service because of her numerous activities on behalf of others. She and her husband Claude married in 1940, and together were the proud parents of Claudia and David. They also loved their son - in- law Billy C. Jack (deceased) of Columbia and their daughter- in- law Julianne K. Spence of Montgomery, AL. She is survived by her grandchildren Robert Jack (Whitney Weeks), Laura Jack (Jeb Burch), Edward Jack, Ashley Vogt (Marc Vogt), and Douglas Spence (Cassandra Spence) as well as seven great-grandchildren. Charles Pierce Hall, William Stanley Jack, Jane Whitney Jack, Frances Whitney Jack, Preston Chase Vogt, Spencer Crew Vogt and Samuel Taylor Buice. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. , Wednesday, March 16 at the Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery AL., and a graveside service at Macon Memorial Park will be held at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) on March 17 in Macon, GA. The family will visit with friends Sunday, March 20th in the Parish Hall of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Columbia at 4:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Oakes and Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with local arrangements.
