MR. FRED J. PETTY Mr. Fred Johnson Petty, 95, retired from Gibson Oil Company and resident of West 15th Street, died Sunday, November 17, 2002 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Brother Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A native of the Lynnville Community in Giles County, he was the son of the late Austin M. Petty and Rhoda Tanker Petty. He was in the first graduating class at Campbellsville School and attended and played football at Jones High School in Lynnville. Mr. Petty was a member and served as an Elder of the Highland Church of Christ for forty-three years. Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Christine Gibson Petty of Columbia; a daughter, Gayle Owens of Columbia; a son, Larry (Lisa) Petty of Columbia; four grandchildren; a step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Doug Owens; a sister, Allene Petty Sands; two brothers, Robert M. Petty and Oscar Petty. Active pallbearers are Paul Gibson, Phillip Petty, Scottie James, John Brown, Enoch George, Ronald Grigsby, Bobby Thurman and Frank Duncan.Honorary pallbearers include Dr. B. I. Naddy, Claude McDonald, Joe T. Modrall, C. M. Allen, Randy Thurman, LeRoy Gibson, Curtis Flowers, Ervin Cooper, William Allen Sands and Bob Petty.
