View Funeral WebcastMr. Fred Eugene Prince, 83, retired from E.I. Dupont Corporation and Spontex and resident of Experiment Station Lane, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Adair and Barry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Walter L. Prince and Stella May Isabell Prince. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was involved in operations with the 27th Infantry then transferred to the 11th Airborne Division 152nd Anti-Aircraft Batallion. He was an active member of Highland Park Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was a former Brotherhood president and Royal Ambassador leader and formerly served as Sunday School teacher and Superintendent of the Junior Department. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Cynthia Harris Prince of Columbia; daughter, Mrs. Linda (Ron) Wantland of Knoxville; son, Michael F. (Jan) Prince of Columbia; adopted family Gil, Sherry & Justin Magallanes of Clarksville; two sisters, Mrs. Sammie (R.D.) Ledford of Columbia, Mrs. Betty (James) Clark of the Sawdust Community; sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Prince of Columbia; four grandchildren, Michael C. "Chad" (Jennifer) Prince, Matthew Corey Prince both of Columbia, David Michael (fiancée, Elizabeth Hubbard) Wantland, Mrs. Kristy (Jeffrey) McGaha both of Knoxville; four great-grandchildren, Jaden Prince, Connor Prince, Troy McGaha, Gabriel McGaha; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William Evans Prince, Rayburn Prince and Russell Prince and a sister, Ruth Prince. Pallbearers will be Dr. Ben High, David Ledford, Dwight Ledford, Bobby Prince, Pat Prince, Marty Clark, Terry Prince, Scott Troope and Donny Prince. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and Adult Sunday School Class of Highland Park Baptist Church, retired employees of Dupont Corp and Spontex, John and Betty Lovett, Milton Perry, Bobby and Brandy Crowell, Eddie Pratt and Doug Wright.
