Mr. Fred C. White, long time resident of Columbia, TN died on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia after a brief illness.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joe Evans and Reverend Jennie Barber officiating. A private family burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.The family will visit with friends on Wednesday at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church prior to the service. The family suggests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, the Maury County YMCA or the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation's Cancer Fund. Born in Blytheville, AR he was the son of the late Robert Ray White and Icy May White and a graduate of Blytheville High School where he was an All State basketball player and the University of Central Arkansas where he was an All Conference basketball player and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years Betty Hamilton White in 1998.After beginning his business career with Sears, Fred moved into the aluminum industry where he worked for over thirty years. He worked for Conalco in Jackson, TN and Florence, AL and American Recycle in Mount Pleasant, TN before starting Smelter Service Corporation in Mount Pleasant, TN with his partner Jim Barrier. He was a well known and respected aluminum industry businessman and leader. Fred was an active and benevolent community member serving on the board of directors of many organizations including the Maury County YMCA, Columbia State Community College Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maury County and Community First Bank and Trust.An avid sports enthusiast Fred enjoyed Alabama football, the Tennessee Titans, SEC basketball and watching his grandchildren play soccer and football. He loved his church family at First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder and the Maury County YMCA family where he enjoyed working out and visiting with friends. He also enjoyed having lunch with family, friends and colleagues at Graymere Country Club.A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many he is survived by his wife Betty Kay Dauterive White, children, William Robert (Patricia) White of Dallas , TX, Carroll White (Joe) Kilgore, II, and James Benjamin (Dee) White, of Columbia, brother, Robert Ray (Janice) White of Leachville, AR; grandchildren, Joe Kyle Kilgore, III and Adam Carroll Kilgore of Columbia, TN, Hamilton Collins White, Luke Harrison White and James Lewis White, all of Dallas, TX, step-sons Jay (Lyndsay) Murchison of Bridge City, TX and Wesley Murchison of Nashville, TN, step-granddaughters Abby and Hannah Murchison of Bridge City, TX and Karmen Rettinger of Columbia, TN, mother-in-law, Eva Gay Kinard of Nederland, TX, sisters-in-law, Janis Williams of Dallas, TX, Sharon Dauterive of Groves, TX, and Jolean (Rick) Bourque of Nederland, TX, brothers-in-law, Keith (Cherry) Dauterive of Bridge City, TX and Carl (Tami) Dauterive of Groves, TX, lifelong friends, Curtis Ray (Andrea) Thurman, Conner Ray Thurman and Veronica Nicole Thurman of Cypress, TX, He was preceded in death by a brother John Hunter White.Active pallbearers are Victor C. Beck, DDS, Eslick Daniel, MD, Jerry Kennedy, Ken Moore, MD, Dalton Mounger, Andrew Sisk, MD, Roger Witherow, and John O. Williams, III. The honorary pallbearer is John Fletcher.The family wishes to express appreciation to the nursing staff in the first floor CCU and 3rd floor oncology at Maury Regional Medical Center for their kindness and care during his illness.
