View Video Tribute On February 11, 2014, Clarice Gail Norman Lee peacefully departed this life; she was 69 years old. Knowing only a life filled with love, laughter, giving, encouragement and friendships, Gail was born July 23, 1944, in Columbia, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Virginia Medkiff Norman of Columbia. A resident of Columbia and Old Hickory, Tenn., Gail graduated from Columbia Central High School and was Salutatorian in 1962. She spent 30 years in the funeral home business in Hermitage, Tenn. and Nashville, Tenn. where she received several accolades for her years of service. Upon her return to Columbia, after retirement, she began service with Maury Regional Hospital's Volunteer Auxiliary. She served as President of the Auxiliary from 2003-2005.Gail married her high school sweetheart, Murry (Sonny) Lee, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14 of last year. Gail was a devoted member of the West 7th Church of Christ where she served as a bible class teacher, mentor and elder's wife. Gail was an adored and respected wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed greatly. She was devoted to her family and always loved spending time with her nine grandchildren which brought her so much joy. Gail is survived by her husband, Murry (Sonny) Lee, who cared for her lovingly through her five year battle with vascular dementia. She leaves behind one daughter, Sherri Lee Groves, of Marietta, Ga.; and two sons, Scotty (Tammy) Lee, of Lebanon, Tenn.; Gregg (Amy) Lee, of Waynesboro, Tenn. She was affectionately called "Gammers" by nine beautiful grandchildren, Dallas, Dakota and Dayton Groves, of Marietta, Ga.; Morgan, Murry, and Macy Lee, of Lebanon, Tenn.; Sadie, Annie and Maggie Lee, of Waynesboro, Tenn. Gail was blessed to have one sister, Carolyn Norman Turnmyre, of Columbia, Tenn.; and one brother, Ronnie (Martha) Norman, of Sugarland, Texas. She also leaves behind two nieces, Robin Turnmyre of Gainesville, Ga., Mary Beth (Ryan) Davis of Sugarland, Texas; one nephew, Ryan (Kathryn) Norman of Sugarland, Texas; two great nieces and four great nephews. Gail also leaves behind a host of friends from Old Hickory and Columbia.The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 13, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Friday, February 14, at the West 7th Church of Christ with family receiving friends two hours before the service at the church. Randy Owens and Don Loftis will be officiating. Pallbearers will include the following: Murry Lee, Del Groves, Dallas Groves, Dakota Groves, Dayton Groves, Ryan Norman, and Richie Spann. Honorary pallbearers include the following: Elders and Deacons of the West 7th Church of Christ; Associate Ministers from the West 7th Church of Christ, Elders of the Old Hickory Church of Christ, Old Hickory Mountain Group, Jim (Sonny) Morton, Nancy Cartwright, Byrom Dickens, Roy and Edna Vick, Allen and Deborah Tilley, Jim and Bitsy Oliver, Don and Marie Kinzer, Doug and Evelyn Couch, Gerald and Sharon Martin, Charlie and Faye Alsup, Chris and Michelle Shrader, MRH Volunteer Auxiliary, 1962 CHS Class Reunion Committee. Burial will follow the services at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the West 7th Church of Christ Building Fund or Columbia Academy. The family would like to express a special thank you to the employees and staff of The Gardens at Poplar Estates for their kindness and care given to Gail over the past three years.
