View Funeral WebcastMr. Gaston Edward "Bud" Creel, 71, retired chief operator for the City of Columbia Water Treatment Plant and from the U. S. Navy, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Steve Swango, Rev. Brandon Stutts, and Rev. Bob Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorials Gardens with military honors provided by the U. S. Navy. The family will visit with friends Saturday and Sunday after 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 109 East 17th Street, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Milton Edward Creel and Ophie McKissack Creel. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1956-1976 as an MSC. He was a member and served as a Deacon of Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and the U. S. Navy Fleet Reserve. Survivors include his wife, Duwan Perley Creel of Columbia; daughter, Brenda (Gerald) Vick of Columbia; sons, Randy Creel of Baxter, Jim (Rachael) Creel of Spring Hill, and Tim (Nancy) Creel of Columbia; grandchildren, Tiffany Pugh, Rebecca Poovey, James Creel, Robert Creel, Eric Creel, Christopher Vick, Stephen Vick, and Madison Creel; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Norma (Kyle) Rush of Monticello, Kentucky, Wanda (Frank) Sealey of Summertown, and Donna (Arthur) Crigger of Lewisburg; several nieces and nephews; special nephew, Bill Perley, whom he and his wife reared. He was preceded in death by a sister, Othelia Pinkard. U. S. Navy personnel will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include members of Loyal Chapel Free Will Baptist Church,U. S. Navy Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 44, co-workers at Columbia Waste Water Treatment Plant, and David Smith.
