View Funeral WebcastMrs. Mildred Genette Huddleston McBroom, 80, resident of Charleston Lane, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at NHC Place Cool Springs. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Billy Kimbrough and Bro. Lloyd Benjamin Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Baxter in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Huddleston and Minnie Bell Herron Huddleston. In 1947 she graduated at the top of her class from Baxter Seminary. She was an employee of the Social Security Administration before becoming a homemaker while her children were young. From 1973 - 2000 she was secretary/treasurer of Parrish Lumber Co./McBroom Homebuilders. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Charles Edward McBroom of Columbia; two daughters, Elaine McBroom (Gerald) Waggoner and Linda McBroom (Robert) Walker both of Columbia; son, Randy (Joy) McBroom of Columbia; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Creech of Martin, Caroline Megan McBroom, Sydney Lynn Walker both of Columbia; four grandsons, Jeremy Matthew (Courtney) Hammond of Oklahoma City, OK, Nathan Edward McBroom, Robert Lee Walker II, Cody McBroom Walker all of Columbia; one sister, Callie (Benjamin) Brown of Indiana; two brothers, J.D. Huddleston of Cookeville, Floyd (Janet) Huddleston of Ohio; step-grandchildren, Vikki (Steve) Bagby, Gerald D. Waggoner, Jr. and Col. John (Lisa) Waggoner; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cynthia Ann McBroom. Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Matthew Hammond, Nathan Edward McBroom, Robert Lee Walker II, Cody McBroom Walker, Kevin Creech and Wallace Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Mrs. Betty Vinson, Mrs. Lucille Johnson, and members of First Baptist Church Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
