George A. Peden, 83, resident of Campbellsville Pike, died Friday, July 17, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Richard Van Cleave officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of condolence may be extended at oakesandnichols.com. The Giles County native was the son of the late William Bryant Peden and Julie Hardwick Peden. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and served in the U. S. Army. He married the former Mary Jane Bassham August 3, 1952. She preceded him in death December 22, 2010. Mr. Peden was a life-long heavy equipment operator and for the past 10 years with his sons and grandsons, operating Peden Construction. Survivors include his daughters, Sherry (Alan) Tate and Marsha (Terry) Hann; sons, Rickey (Teresa) Peden and Jeff (Terri) Peden, all of Columbia; sister, Ruth Bass of Columbia; brother, Carl (Wylodean) Peden of Campbellsville; grandchildren, Scott (Aubrey) Tate, Zach (Meghan) Tate, Miranda (Brian) Wood, Dustin Peden, Kit (Amber) Peden, Cam Peden, and Carly Peden; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Harper and brothers, Bill Peden, James Peden, and Paul Peden. Active pallbearers are Scott Tate, Zach Tate, Dustin Peden, Kit Peden, Cam Peden, Brian Wood, and Mike Peden. Honorary pallbearers include Greg Wilson, David Walls, Mike Parris, Mike Bassham, and David Bassham.
