View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast George Walker Woody, 78, resident of Cheyenne Trail, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Steve Dorning and Rev. David Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols concluding with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. with members of Benton Masonic Lodge officiating. The family suggests memorials to Santa Fe Cemetery Association, c/o Norman Harris, 3929 Sowell Hollow Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com. A descendent of pioneer settlers of the Santa Fe Community, he was the youngest son of the late John N. Woody and Pauline Pigg Woody and 1954 graduate of Santa Fe High School. He was a long-time member and active in the affairs of Riverside United Methodist Church. A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, York Rite Mason, and member of Benton Masonic Lodge for 50 years, he served as lodge secretary for 10 years. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. Mr. Woody was employed by Monsanto Company for 25 years, General Electric Corporation for 10 years, and retired from the maintenance department of Essex Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Walters Woody, whom he married July 24, 1955; daughter, Janet (Steve) Dorning of Athens, Alabama; sons, Gary (Shelli) Woody and Don Woody of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Austen Woody (fiancé Laura Atkinson) Dorning, Cameron Walker Dorning, Isaac George Dorning, Michele (Brad) Wright, Jessica Dorning, Stephen Dorning, Jack Tyler (fiancé Kendra Hanvy) Woody, and Jessica Woody; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jefferson Woody, Henry Paul Woody, Allan Woody, and J. Burton Woody. Active pallbearers are Austen Dorning, Jack Woody, Cameron Dorning, Isaac Dorning, Ronnie Woody, Barry Woody, Wayne Woody, Fred Woody, and Phil Walters. Members of Benton Masonic Lodge will serve as honorary pallbearers.
