Mr. Gerald "Pete" Brooks, 71, resident of Park Avenue South in Hohenwald, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Perry Community Hospital. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Baxter Cemetery in Hampshire with Mike Hinson officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made to Baxter Cemetery Fund, c/o Community First Bank, 501 S. Brooks and Katherine Crowder Brooks. He was a member of the 1959 graduating class of Hampshire School. Mr. Brooks retired from Maury Farmers Cooperative in 2002 where he had been manager of the Garden Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Louise Baxter Brooks of Hohenwald; daughter, Debbie (Marty) Spears of Hohenwald; son, Barry (Jill) Brooks of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Paxson Spears, Colleen Brooks, Madelyne Brooks, Coble Brooks; twin sister, Geraldine (Don) Hiner of Columbia; brothers, Vernon (Joan) Brooks and J.D. (April) Brooks both of Mt. Pleasant; and sister, Ellen Ann (Charlie) Anderson of Mt. Pleasant. Active pallbearers will be Todd Baxter, Dee Gordon, Darrell Hickman, Greg Baxter, Steve Brooks, Chris Brooks, Joe Brooks, Jeff Brooks and Waverly Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Loyce Anderson, Ronnie Dinwiddie, Matthew Dinwiddie and employees of Maury Farmer CO-OP.
