Geraldine Allen Sanders

Geraldine Allen Sanders, 81, resident of Maple Court, died Friday, March 13, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Columbia Academy, 1101 West 7th Street, Columbia 38401. Born in the Shoal Creek Community in Cherokee, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Enoch Napoleon Allen and Mae Belle Stiles Allen. She attended King's Daughters' School of Nursing and Columbia Business College. She married William S. Sanders, Sr. on June 10, 1951. Their marriage ended with his death October 1, 1993. Mrs. Sanders worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Maury Regional Medical Center for several years and then joined Dr. Clay Miller in his private practice. Later, she was associated with and retired from Middle Tennessee Bank as an IRA Specialist. She was a long-time member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Michael (Paula) Sanders of Columbia; grandson, William Paul Sanders; daughter-in-law, Catherine "Cathy" Sanders of Columbia; sisters, Monteen Wilson, Shirley Griffith, Eula (Wendell) Moore, and Linda (Jim) White, all of North Carolina, and Jane Barnett of Georgia; sister-in-law, Ila Goodman of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, William S. Sanders, Jr. and sister, Helen Taylor. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include former employees of Middle Tennessee Bank.
