View Funeral Webcast Harold H. Hardison, 92, retired Maury County educator and former long-time resident of Hampshire Pike, died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan, Kirk Brothers, Wendell Robinson, and Andrew Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Wednesday from 12:00 noon to service time at the church. The family suggests memorials to Timothy Hill Children's Ranch, 298 Middle Rd, Riverhead, NY 11901 Born and reared in the Carter's Creek Community in Maury County, he was the son of the late Herschel Huntley Hardison and Jane Jennings McKay Hardison. He was a graduate of Spring Hill High School. After two years at David Lipscomb College, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and served as a radio operator in Burma during World War II. After the war, he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy at the University of Tennessee and earned a Master's Degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Kentucky. Mr. Hardison began his 38-year career in education as agriculture instructor at Eagleville and later taught in Portland before moving to Columbia where he taught agriculture and shop. He served as Principal of Columbia Central High School for 10 years. A long-time member of Graymere Church of Christ, he served as Sunday School teacher, Deacon,and Elder. He married the former Olivyn Pearson of Franklin, Tennessee April 2, 1948, who survives. They loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Germany for opera performances. The also visited numerous other European countries, Russia, and traveled extensively in India, Burma, and China. Mr. Hardison was active in the work of the Columbia Kiwanis Club, rarely missed the Friday meetings and participated in numerous fund-raising projects of the club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their sons, Harold Huntley (Margaret Ann Niven) Hardison of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ross Cameron (Deborah Smith) Hardison of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and Alan Wesley (Debra Rene) Hardison of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; a sister, Cora Beal (Doug) Shields of Oxford, Mississippi; grandchildren, Nathan (Lisa) Hardison, Aaron (Kassi) Hardison, Daniel (Amanda) Hardison, Michael (Vanessa) Hardison, Rachel (Vance) Bow, David Hardison, and Alexander Hardison; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hardison will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, easy-going personality, generosity of spirit, and wise leadership. He encouraged generations of students to do their best in scholastics, vocational education, athletics, and other activities. He was proud of the accomplishments of the many students he served as teacher and principal. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
