Helen Louise Gambill Brown 92, former resident of Green Acres Drive, died Sunday, December 13, 2015. A Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Born July 10, 1923 in Petersburg, TN she was the daughter of the late Mai Belle Hastings Gambill and Thomas Gambill. She was a 1941 graduate of Columbia Central High School. On September 7, 1947 she married Thomas Hurley Brown and their fifty-nine year marriage ended with his death on June 29, 2008. She was a homemaker and member of Highland Church of Christ.Survivors include her daughter, Bronwyn (Barry) Watson of Murfreesboro; son, Brian Brown of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Mandy (Cobey) Wilson of Auburn, Alabama; Megan (Jason Schissel) Watson of Mountain View, California; Eric Watson of Murfreesboro; great grandchildren, Sloane and Chase Wilson, Finnian and Veda Schissel; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gambill of Ocala, Florida; and several nephews.In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ethel Lovejoy; brother, Thomas Edward Gambill. Honorary pallbearers include "the bunch", Sarah Posey, Ross Beckham, Roberta Kirk, Keith and Helen Mitchener, Aurelia Reed, Mary Frances Tindell, Jerry and Ailenne Norman as well as Billy Demastus, Harold and Irma Rippy and family, Jerry and Suzanne Turner, the elders of the Highland Church of Christ, and the Columbia Central High School Class of 1941.The family wishes to express a special thanks to caregivers Marilyn Frierson and the office of Dr. Cummins Couch.
