View Video TributeView Funeral WebcastMrs. Helen Pauline Kappel Brunson, 89, resident of Hilltop Drive, died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Smith and Rev. Melinda Britt officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 5 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 222 West 7th St., Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Bullitt County, Kentucky native was the daughter of the late John L. Kappel and Leona Brown Kappel. She and her husband, Jack Stanley Brunson, celebrated sixty years of marriage on June 6, 2013. Mrs. Brunson was a retired employee of L&N Railroad. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, going on trips with friends and most of all having family gatherings with her loved ones. She was a volunteer at Life Care Nursing Home. A longtime member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Ayers-Whitney Fellowship Sunday School Class and active in the United Methodist Women's Circle along with The Young at Heart. Her memory will be cherished by those she leaves behind. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Paulette (Walt) Robinson of Columbia; son, Tony (Denise) Brunson of Columbia; grandchildren, Natalie (Brad) Hopkins of Murfreesboro, Blake Brunson of Columbia; and great-grandchildren, Evan Hopkins and Mya Hopkins both of Murfreesboro. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Pallbearers include Wayne Brunson, Jerry Brunson, Clifton Kelly, Shane Seagraves, Frank McBride and J.B. Shepard.
