Helen Walker Mullins Manning, 99, Maury County native, died Friday, November 2, 2012 at her residence at The Blakeford in Nashville. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, 2000 Belle Meade Blvd., Nashville, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. David George officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. in the family plot in Santa Fe Cemetery. Born in Santa Fe, Tennessee on March 1, 1913, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Edwin Bush Manning; parents, Joe B. and Grace Walker Mullins; grandparents, Dr. M.F. and Erminia Walker of Santa Fe; and sister, Catherine Mullins Zseltvay. She was educated at Ransom School and Ward-Belmont Preparatory School and College in Nashville. Known for her beauty, inside and out, she was appreciated by all who knew her for her thoughtfulness, hospitality, and good humor. A woman of many interests and talents, she was a long-time active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Current Events Club. Her greatest devotion was to her family. She will be greatly missed by her children and in-laws, Judy Manning Auer and Jim of Franklin, Nancy Manning VanDevender and Pace of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Edwin Manning, Jr. and Vicki of Nashville; grandchildren, Laura VanDevender (Kevin) Hawkins of Atlanta, Georgia, Kate VanDevender of Los Angeles, California, Dr. Aaron VanDevender of San Francisco, California; Tei (Shanna) Auer of Franklin, Helen Auer of Nashville, Captain John Edwin Auer of Washington, D. C., Ann Carroll Manning of Nashville, and Victoria Manning of Nashville; and four great-grandchildren. The family is most grateful to the wonderful staff at Woodcrest at The Blakeford for the loving care Helen received during her time there.
