Herbert Daniel “Danny” Slaughter, 61, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Bro. Mylen Coble officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Born on December 21, 1964, in Giles County, Tennessee, Herbert was the son of the late Herbert Lester Slaughter and the late Earlene Phaye Fowler Pipkin. On June 29, 1985, he married the love of his life, Sherry Attkisson Slaughter, and together they built a family that was the center of his world.
Danny was a hardworking man whose dedication and work ethic were second to none. Whether on the job or helping someone in need, he was known for giving 110 percent in everything he did. He spent his career as a general superintendent for several respected construction companies throughout Middle Tennessee, including Summitt Constructors, Bob Gregory Inc., Highways Inc., Jacobs Construction, and Floyd & Floyd Contractors.
A man of the Baptist faith, Danny attended Viola Baptist Church and Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. Away from work, he found great joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He treasured attending basketball and baseball games with his children and grandchildren. Danny also had a passion for collecting antiques, growing vegetables, flowers and plants of all kinds. During his high school years, he was active in sports.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Attkisson Slaughter of Columbia; two sons, Kerby (Ashley) Slaughter and Ryan Slaughter, both of Hampshire; his brother, David Slaughter of Columbia; five cherished grandchildren, Tucker Slaughter, Owen Slaughter, Sadie Slaughter, Levi Slaughter, and Ellie Slaughter; his brother-in-law, David Fitzgerald; and several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and their families, all of whom loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Landon Ryan Slaughter, and his sister, Leslie Karen “Sissy” Fitzgerald.
Pallbearers will be Logan Slaughter, Jeff Lovell, Rob Pitts, Steve Clark, Nicholas Clark and Kyle Brochu.
