Herman Lee “Pete” Woodward, 98, retired shift foreman for Peabody Coal, and lifelong resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Born June 19, 1926 in Columbia, TN, he was the son of the late Herman Elmo Woodward and the late Mary Lee Yokley Woodward. On June 18, 1948 he married Macel Jean Harvey, who preceded him in death on August 17, 2004 after 56 years of marriage. Pete was an accomplished motorcycle mechanic and brick mason, even building his own house. He was a country boy who loved watching westerns. Above all, Pete loved his family and spending time with them. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Carpenter of Spring Hill; son, Terry (Lisa) Woodward of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Michelle Woodward (G.K.) Sealey of Springfield, Brandon Woodward of White House, Christopher (Liz) Carpenter, and Shon Carpenter both of Spring Hill; great-grandchildren, Hunter Barnett, Kensley Sealey both of Springfield, Blake Woodward, Reese Woodward, and Derek Woodward all of White House; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers, honorary pallbearers will include Dr. Shawn Gentry, Dr. Terry Lacher, and the Deacons of Parkway Baptist Church.
