View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Howard Robinson, 84, retired from Union Carbide Corporation and resident of Towson Drive, died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Graymere Church of Christ Benevolence Fund, 1320 Trotwood Avenue, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native grew up in Mt. Pleasant and was the son of the late Earnest Hughie Robinson and Susie Webb Robinson. He was a graduate of Haylong High School, attended Columbia Business College, and served in the U. S. Navy as a Pharmacist Mate 1945-1946 during World War II. Mr. Robinson was a long-time, faithful member of Graymere Church of Christ, served as an Usher for a number of years, and, with Mrs. Robinson, oversaw the operation of Graymere's Benevolence Center. As a young man, he was a member of the Columbia Jaycees. He continued to be active in civic and community affairs as a member of the Columbia Kiwanis Club and in recent years, Golden K; had the honor of being elected Kiwanis Lt. Governor; was a member of Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, a Scottish Rite Mason, Nashville Shrine Club; Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 American Legion, and was a volunteer for Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bobbye Pinkston Robinson, whom he married March 17, 1951; daughter, Rhonda Robinson Long of Columbia; son, Walt (Paulette) Robinson, of Columbia; grandchildren, Natalie (Brad) Hopkins of Murfreesboro, Elizabeth (Barry) Carroll of Columbia, and Stacey Long of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Mya Hopkins, Evan Hopkins, and Christian Carroll; sisters, Mary Neil (David) Wise of Columbia and Frances (Dick) McKnight of Williamsburg, Virginia; brother, Tommy Robinson of Columbia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sara and Shelby Carpenter of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Robinson Brown. Active pallbearers are David Carpenter, Shelby Carpenter, Spencer Carpenter, Scott Vann, Hunter Vann, and Ken Robinson. Honorary pallbearers include Union Carbide Corporation retirees, members of the Columbia Kiwanis Club, Golden K, Graymere Church of Christ Ushers, and the Mule Town Rookies Card Club. The family wishes to express appreciation to the 1st Floor Nursing Staff at Maury Regional Medical Center, Dr. H. Kanth, Dr. Lucy Ledbetter, Dr. James Fitts, and Hospice Compassus for their care and concern during his illness.
