View Funeral Webcast James Bruce "J.B." Grant, 84, business consultant and former association executive, died Monday, October 24, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Tommy Vann and Rev. Scott Aleridge officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Born in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of the late Herschel L. Grant and Omie Henson Grant. He attended Columbia Central High School. He entered the U. S. Army - Air Corps, serving from 1943-1946 in the European Theatre of Operation during World War II. Active in the Columbia Jaycees, he served as President of the Maury County Fair Board for a number of years. From 1966 - 1971, he was associated with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and from 1971-1991 as Executive Secretary of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture in Washington, D. C. In 1991 he established J. B. Grant & Associates, a consulting firm he operated to the present. Mr. Grant was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church and Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Survivors include his wife, Winona Smith Grant, whom he married July 24, 1949; nieces, Judy Connell (Kenny) McLeod of Henderson and Sandra Connell (Noel) Jones of Smyrna; sister-in-law, Dolores Connell Love of Columbia; great-nieces, Kimberly McLeod, Natalie Jones, and Sarah Jones; great-nephew, Jared McLeod. Active pallbearers are Dr. Caleb Wallworth, Paul McBride, Dickie Cook, David Cook, Michael Cook and Derek Bass. Honorary pallbearers include former members of the Columbia Jaycees, Maury County Fair Board members, staff of Home Health Care of Middle Tennessee, Dr. Carl Willis, and Ernest M. Baker.
