J Mack Liggett

View Video Tribute J. Mack Liggett, 78, retired maintenance supervisor for Occidental Chemical Corporation and long-time resident of Laurel Circle, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Berea Church of Christ with Carl May officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Marshall County. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Berea Church of Christ, 746 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, TN 38401 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Notes of sympathy may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Thomas Julian Liggett and Anne Ruth McCarley Liggett. He was a 1954 graduate of Columbia Central High School and long-time member and Elder and Deacon of Berea Church of Christ. Mr. Liggett was an avid sports fan and very active in all areas of the Columbia American Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball League. He married the former Bette Jean Davis on November 22, 1956. Their fifty-two year marriage ended with her death September 8, 2009. Survivors include his daughter, Jana (Bill) Love of Santa Fe; sons, Jeff Liggett of Columbia, Mark (Sheila) Liggett of Santa Fe, and Scott (Dawn) Liggett of Columbia; sister, Judy Liggett of Columbia; grandchildren, Brittney Liggett, Lindsey Liggett, Beth Liggett, Jade Liggett, Julianne Liggett, Jacob (Misty) Love, Joshua Love, Drew (Allison) Love, Hannah Love, Rachel Brown (Caleb) Garrett, Kristin Brown, Sam Liggett, and Emma Liggett; seven great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers are Jacob Love, Josh Love, Drew Love, Sam Liggett, Mike Bryan, and Mike Cook. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Bloss, Jim Cook, Jimmy Attkison, Les Goad, Donald Sisk, Jack Cunningham, past and present members of Berea Church of Christ, past employees of Occidental Chemical Corporation, Dr. Shawn Reed and staff of Frensisus Dialysis, and the neighborhood children who grew up with Mack and Bette loving them as their own. The family especially thanks the staff of NHC Columbia for their kindness, friendship, and care during Mack's residence in their facility.
