View Funeral Webcast J. B. Thurman, 82, retired laboratory inspector for Union Carbide Corporation for 35 years and resident of Jackson Heights Road, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Brother Curtis Dowdy officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Maury County native was the son of the late John Raymond Thurman and Ada Eunice Tice Thurman. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Hubbell Thurman, whom he married February 5, 1949; children, Brenda (Lon) Wilson, Don (Pam) Thurman and Dennis (Rolanda) Thurman, all of Columbia; grandchildren, Kimberly (Andy) Coates of Columbia, Kyle Thurman of Burke, Virginia, Gina Carroll of Memphis, Jeffrey Carroll, Kali Thurman, and Lindsey Thurman of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Madeline Carroll, Trystan Carroll, and Addison Coates. Active pallbearers are Kyle Thurman, Jeffrey Carroll, Andy Coates, Lon Wilson, Danny Ray Puckett, James Reedy, Ray Cherry, Jr. and Athel Hickman. Union Carbide Corporation retirees will serve as honorary pallbearers.
