James Franklin "Jim" Casselberry, 75, retired engineer with Bell South, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at his residence on Osborne Drive. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe Evans and Rev. Jennie Barber officiating. A private family burial will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday after 12:00 noon at the church. A native of Lexington, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Jesse Frederick "Fred" Casselberry and Willie Juaree Lindsey Casselberry. He was a 1956 graduate of Lexington High School, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1965. He furthered his education earning his Master's Degree in 1993 from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Casselberry served in the U. S. Navy from 1956 - 1959. Mr. Casselberry retired after thirty years employment with Bell South and was a former member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed photography and shared his carpentry talents with others through his involvement with Habitat for Humanity. He was a former Boy Scout Leader while living in Clarksville for several years and served as a literacy volunteer for first grade students at Joseph Brown Elementary School in Columbia. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was currently serving as Elder, Sunday School Teacher of the Timothy Class, and a member of the church choir. He had participated in several mission trips to Mexico and Guatemala. He was especially fond of his dogs, Jack and George. Survivors include his wife whom he married July 17, 1965, Shirley Fowler Casselberry of Columbia; daughter, Elizabeth Casselberry (Bart) Pemberton of Knoxville; son, Andrew Casselberry of Berkley, Michigan; brother, John (Betty) Casselberry of Lexington; grandchildren, Jay Pemberton and Will Pemberton, both of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Jim (Judy) Fowler of Chattanooga and Warner Dunlap, Sr. of Humboldt; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Warner Dunlap, Jr., Jay Fowler, Joe Rives, Grant Casselberry, Terry Weakly, Bill Summar, Bill Handy, Dick Green, Joe Graham, and Michael Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and elders of First Presbyterian Church and members of the Timothy Class.
