James Allison “Jim” Cook Jr., 88, retired banker, died Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Kenny Anderson, Ben Bayless and Adam Cook officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.  The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

He was born on December 16, 1935 in Maury County to the late James Allison Cook Sr. and the late Stella Altum Cook.  He was a member of the 1952 State Football Champions and a member of the Class of 1953 of Columbia Central High School. He served in United States Navy and was a member of the First Baptist Church.  He served as the president of First Federal Savings & Loan and First City Bank. He served seventeen years as a County Commissioner of the 5th District, two terms as Past President of Columbia Jaycees, Past International Senator of the Jaycees, Past President of American Little League, Past Exalted Ruler of Columbia Elks Lodge 686, he sponsored several girl softball teams and Pop Warner teams.  Most of all he will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. 

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Janet “Jan” Johnson Cook; children; Allison Speed of Columbia, Shelley Fautt of Columbia, Dickie (Becky) Cook of Spring Hill, Michael “Mike” (Lori) Cook of Columbia, Jill Gordon of Columbia, David (Heather) Cook of Columbia, Kristen Cook of Columbia, Karen (Steve) Clark; fifteen grandchildren; Adam (Ali) Cook, Lauren (Zach) Walker, Shelby (Caleb) Powell, Jackson Cook, Taylor Gordon, Cameron Gordon, Anna Cook, Jamie Cook, Sam Cook, Connor Cook, Kayla Gordon, Lexi Patterson, Lucas Patterson, Ryan Clark and Brady Clark; and several great grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven Cook; daughter, Leslie Patterson; brother, Jerry Cook.

Pallbearers will be Adam Cook, Sam Cook, Jackson Cook, Cameron Gordon, Ryan Clark, Brady Clark, Connor Cook, Steve Clark and Zach Walker.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Bayless, Monte Bayless, Eddie Ables, Lea Ables, Dr. Lucy Ledbetter, Wally Tillman, B. L. Alexander, Sheila Alexander, Jan Harmon, Don B. Harmon, Tommy Cook, Norma Cook, Johnny Earwood, Janet Earwood, and Jerry Allen Cook. Special thanks to Dr. Lucy Ledbetter, Caris Hospice, Emergency Room Staff, Emergency Medical Team, Brittani and Critical Care Unit nurses at Maury Regional Medical Center.
