James Allen Dunn

View Video Tribute James Allen Dunn, 72, retired managing underwriter and resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at First Family Baptist Church with Rev. David Simmerman and Rev. Billy Kimbrough officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday after 2:00 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The family suggests memorials to First Family Baptist Church, 2790 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401. Born January 17, 1940, he was the son of the late John Russell Dunn and Alberta McCarty Dunn. He was a graduate of Oklahoma University and a certified Master Gardener. Mr. Dunn was retired from Traveler's Insurance Company. He was an active and faithful member of First Family Baptist Church and a fun-loving family man. Jim had an exceptional fondness for his three grandchildren and his daughter Amy. Survivors include his beloved wife, Thyra Jean Richardson Dunn of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Philip Carter of Tipton, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Ronin Carter, Kai Carter, and Ren Carter; and one sister, Viola Cannon of Maryland. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Dunn and one sister, Betty York, both of Oklahoma.
