James B "JB" Goldman

View Funeral Webcast Mr. James Buford "J.B." Goldman, 88, retired farmer and lab technician for Occidental Chemical Corporation, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his residence on Circle Drive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Curtis Dowdy and David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Military honors at graveside will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of the Lynnville Community in Giles County, he was the son of the late James Martin "J.M." Goldman and Clara Brown Sands Goldman. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army as a truck driver assigned to Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, 424th Infantry with the rank of PFC. He served in the European Theatre of Operation in Normandy, the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Northern France. He was married January 6, 1946 to the former Inez Foster. Their 62 year marriage ended with her death June 27, 2008. Mr. Goldman was a long-time member of Highland Church of Christ. During his retirement years he enjoyed playing golf, but especially enjoyed time spent fishing with Mrs. Goldman. Survivors include a sister, Mary Naomi Goldman (Charles) Hall of Columbia; sister-in-law, Georgia Dee Wilson Goldman of Culleoka; nieces and nephews, Mary Carolyn Thomason, Debbie Whitley, Patsy Carrington, Sheila Craig, Karen Walker, Danny Ray Goldman, Ricky Goldman, Vickie Haga, Sharon Robinson, Linda Weatherford, Clovis Foster, and Glenna Ruth Thurman; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and very special friend, Philip Paul of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Jo Goldman McMillan and a brother, Edward Sands "E.S." Goldman; and nephews, Ronald Goldman, Jerry Goldman, and Billy Carson Chappell. Active pallbearers are Philip Paul, Charles Hall, Billy Gowan, David Craig, Jerry Weatherford, Jr., and Jeffrey Weatherford. Honorary pallbearers include Gary Redding, Travis Jett, Shelia Craig, Linda Webb, Colton Charles Thomason, Beth Thomas, Mary Carolyn Thomason, Danny Ray Goldman, Bryan Sands, Terry Thompson, and Elders and Deacons of Highland Church of Christ. The family expresses gratitude to Linda Webb, Lynn Williamson, and Beth Thomas for their love and kindness shown to Mr. Goldman and making it possible for him to remain in his home during his last days.
