Mr. James Harold Johnson, 85, resident of Pulaski Highway in the McCains Community, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Alterra Sterling House. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. James Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bigbyville United Methodist Church, 3894 Bigbyville Road, Columbia, TN 38401. On July 9, 1952 he married Era Dell Fannin Johnson who preceded him in death October 3, 2008. He served in the National Guard and was a very active charter member of Maury County Farm Bureau. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong farmer who raised tobacco, soy beans and beef cattle. He loved fishing and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member and former trustee of Bigbyville United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Patricia "Patsy" (Jim) Young, Sandra (Glenn) Pierce both of Columbia, Nancy (Joe) Hopper of Pulaski; sister, Robbie Weatherford of Columbia; five grandchildren, Tracy (Tad) Hickman, Michele (Jim) Adkins, Sarah (Geoff) Boyd all of Columbia, Robyn Pierce, Jason Pierce both of Birmingham, Alabama; eight great-grandchildren, Heather Harrison, Abbigail Adkins, James Robert Adkins, Chase Hickman, Ashton Hickman, Tyson Pierce, Whitney Pierce, Harleigh Belle Pierce; sister-in-law, Linda (Adrian) Johnson of Columbia; brother-in-law, Wayne Lentz of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Flowers and Mildred Johnson and two brothers, Paul Johnson and W.A. Johnson. Active pallbearers are Gary Weatherford, Jim Boshers, Johnny Cothran, Ricky Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Ray Flowers, Billy Sims and Robert Whitley. Honorary pallbearers include Buddy Harris, Tom Haney, Troy Briggs, Herman Hanvy, Bill Pulley, Bill Leeper, Jimmy Matthews, Chris Jett, Wayne Hickman, Charlie Huffman, Randy Carroll, Mike Lentz, Rev. Tony Brown, Rev. Eugene Barrett and members of Bigbyville United Methodist Church.
