James Eugene Lyons

View Video TributeMr. James Eugene Lyons, 82, retired construction superintendent with M. C. White Construction Company in Memphis, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jeffrey Amos Talley officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 6:30 - 8:30 P.M. and after 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of the Peppertown Community in Lawrence County, he was the son of the late Eulice Lyons and Cora Springer Lyons. He attended Summertown School and joined his father in the construction business. Mr. Lyons enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Paris Island for boot camp and Quantico for Sea School training. He served on the USS Wisconsin from 1952 - 1954 and fondly remembered crossing the equator. Following his honorable discharge, he rejoined the family construction business as a carpenter's helper and retired as construction superintendent with M. C. White Construction Company. He was a member of the Carpenters Union 345. Mr. Lyons enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening and always took time for his family. He was a wonderful husband, an awesome father, and truly a magnificent grandpa and great grandpa. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Fraser Lyons whom he married June 14, 1969; children, Carol Swindler of Hernando, Mississippi; Jerry Lyons of Memphis; Ronnie (Teresa) Lyons of Southaven, Mississippi; Randy (Susie) Brown of Memphis; Sohn C. (Angie) Lyons of Memphis; brothers, Rex Harlan (Pinkie) Lyons of Columbia; Billy (Frances) Lyons of Summertown; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Donna Fraser Johns of Columbia. He was preceded in death by brothers, Junior Lyons and Bobby Lyons. Pallbearers will be Jerry Lyons, Ronnie Lyons, Randy Brown, Sohn Lyons, Billy Brown, Cory Redd, Blake Martin, Dylan Bornan, and Micheal Johns.
