View Funeral Webcast Mr. James Glen Mayfield, 88, retried long-time Church of Christ Minster and resident of Criddle Drive, died Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols with John Vaughan, Andrew Phillips, and Donald Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com Born July 29, 1927 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Will Mayfield and Delphia Sisco Mayfield. He was a 1945 graduate of Hickman County High School. Mr. Mayfield received his Bachelor's degree in Bible at David Lipscomb University and Masters of Divinity from Harding University. A retired minister for fifty-four years he served in Pottsville, Kentucky, Ellendale, Tennessee, thirteen years at Highland Church of Christ and thirteen years at Anderson Bend Church of Christ. He was a member of Graymere Church of Christ and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading. Survivors include his wife whom he married December 26, 1955, Sammie Dot Grimes Mayfield of Columbia; children, Jana Robson of Columbia, Brian (Wanda) Mayfield of Brentwood, and Jill Mayfield of Columbia; grandchildren, Kristen Sanders, Ashley (Jake) Manning, Lacy Robertson, Dalton Mayfield, and Cody Mayfield; great grandchildren, Bryce Sanders and Aedan Manning; sister-in- law, Nina (Sam) Whiteside; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Hugh S. Mayfield; son-in-law, Chet Robson. Active pallbearers will be Terry Whiteside, Paul Whiteside, Tommy Grimes, Jimmy Grimes, Ben Steele, Jake Manning, Dalton Mayfield, and Cody Mayfield. Honorary pallbearers include Troy Parks, Diana & Fred Bray, Wayne Pagel, Mike Perrin, Bill McDonald, L.C. Loveless, D.C.
