He was a 1948 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. For a number of years, Mr. Price served as a Deputy with the Maury County Sheriff's Department and later as Arson Investigator for the State of Tennessee. He also was maintenance supervisor of Colony House Apartments and an independent trucker for several years. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and the Fraternal Order of Police. A native of Maury County, Mrs. Price was the daughter of the late Fred Rich and Bessie Hensley Rich. She was a 1948 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She began her retail career working at the Columbia Kroger store and then moved to the downtown area of Columbia where she worked in retail clothing businesses in sales and window design. For a number of years, she was co-owner and operator of the Ten-Ten Market, probably Columbia's first convenience store. She was store manager of the Eleanor Dress Shops and also area supervisor and later, with her long-time friend and partner, Kaye Adams, opened the popular Kaye's Dress Shop in Columbia. She made her home in Hendersonville for several years and during this time she worked with Dillard's and Peebles' department stores. Upon her return to Columbia, Mrs. Price was manager of Hampshire House Apartments and later Colony House Apartments, where she retired in 2001. She was well-liked by all who knew her and made many friends in the grocery business and during her years in apartment management. Virginia was a care-giver to many people, making numerous trips to nursing homes caring for her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as others she encountered along the way and was a great supporter of Maury County Library. Virginia and Jim were long-time, faithful members of Loyal Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Theirs was a true love story beginning when they met at the age of 16. Jim came to town driving a truckload of goats. He caught the eyes of Virginia and a group of her friends who made a 25 cent bet on which one could get the first date with this good-looking boy. Not only did Virginia win the bet, she and Jim married. They separated for several years, but in 1975 their love was rekindled. They and their families joined their lives together February 6, 1976 and began a new life together. Virginia and Jim are jointly survived by their children, Carole (Dan) Hosse, Alesia (Rick) Mangrum, both of Mt. Juliet, Shawn Patterson Price of Nashville, Donnie Morrow of Columbia; grandchildren, Ashlee Mangrum Sanders of Antioch, Christina Sayre of Mt.
