View Video Tribute View Funeral WebcastJames Villard Smith, 96, long-time resident of Stonewall Raod, died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. Burial will follow in Restview Cemetery in Loretto. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Craft Memorial United Methodist Church, 907 Hatcher Lane, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Edgar Smith and Clevie Killen Smith. Mr. Smith worked in the maintenance department of Columbia Slag Company for many years and after his retirement served as a greeter for Wal-Mart. A charter member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church, he served on the organization committee and through the years served the church in various capacities and on numerous committees. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Reba Williams Smith on April 10, 2010. Survivors include his sons, James Thomas (Margaret) Smith of Franklin and Carl Douglas (Charlotte) Smith of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Michael Shane (B. J.) Smith of Augusta, Georgia, Matthew Thomas (Heamin Sun) Smith of Brooklyn, New York, and Christina Elise (Aaron) Cammarn of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Seth Douglas Smith, and Kendall Nicole Smith. Active pallbearers are Steve Johnson, John Michael Johnson, Jim Smith, Rodney Jones, Chris Smith, and Mickey Thompson. Honorary pallbearers include Heavy Thompson, Wilmer Springer, John McEntyre, and Ocial Sharpton.
