View Video TributeView Funeral WebcastMr. James Thomas "Tommy" Underwood, Jr., 64, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at his residence on Morris Avenue. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Joe Westmoreland and Kent Pardon, DVM officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1864, Columbia, TN 38402. The Maury County native was the son of the late James Thomas Underwood, Sr. and Wilmoth Gertrude "Trudy" Ring Underwood and was a 1968 graduate of Central High School. He was employed by GrafTech as a Health, Safety and Environmental Technician from 1972 until 2013. Mr. Underwood was an assistant at Eastside Animal Hospital and an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. He was a former President of the Natchez Trace Bass Club and a tournament bass fisherman. He was a member of West 7th St. Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Sherry Lynn Baker Underwood of Columbia, whom he married March 13, 1999; daughters, Tonya Underwood of Columbia, Jamie Underwood (Adam) Brown of Murfreesboro; sister, Cherry (Tommy) Mimms of Elkton; grandchildren, Christopher Austin Parr, Regan Isabelle Goodloe, Adam Chase Brown, Jackson Thomas Brown, Emma Grace Brown, Payton Alexzander Allen, Keely Michelle Allen; nephews, Edward Mimms, Eric Mimms; sister-in-law, Brenda Westmoreland; and brothers-in-law Rusty Baker and Bryan "Oop" Baker. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Jeremy Ray Allen. Active pallbearers will be Aubrey Baker, Joe Veracco, Michael Perko, Vance "Red" Owens, John Collier, DVM, James Kelley, Glen Brewer and Terry McCaleb. Honorary pallbearers include Tim Hallmark, Elmer Cooper, Kenny Jones, Rick Bolton, GrafTech Employees and past members of Natchez Trace Bass Club.
