Jane Wasson Nicholas

Jane Wasson Nicholas, 97, a longtime resident of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Bruce McLarty officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Born August 7, 1928, in Lawrenceburg TN, Jane was the daughter of the late James D. Wasson and the late Elizabeth Twynan Wasson. She married John William Nicholas in 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2019. Mrs. Nicholas was an avid sports fan, alongside her husband, she was a devoted Vanderbilt football fan. The two shared many memories attending the games as season ticket holders for a duration of time. She joyed knitting and creating handmade treasures for family and friends that reflected her thoughtfulness and caring nature. Mrs. Nicholas was a faithful member of Graymere Church of Christ and was devoted to her family and community throughout her life. Jane lived a remarkable 97 years filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. She embraced each season of life with grace, resilience, and a deep devotion to those she loved.

She is survived by her son, Jim (Kelly) Nicholas of Columbia, TN; granddaughters, Sarah Jane Nicholas of Philadelphia, PA, and Samantha Erin (Brandon) Smith of Smithland, KY; and great-granddaughters, Kaydence Smith and Everleigh Smith of Smithland, KY.

In addition to her parents and her husband of 72 years, John Nicholas, she was preceded in death by her son, John Wasson Nicholas; and grandson, Ricky Watson, Jr.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
