Jean Locke

August 17, 1928 — November 7, 2013

Mrs. Jean McMurray Locke, 85, resident of Sunnyside Drive, died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at NHC Hillview. A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 11:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe Evans and Rev. Jennie Barber officiating. Inurnment will be in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium at a later date. The family will visit with friends at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M. and Monday from 10:30 - 11:30 A.M. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 801 South High Street, Columbia, TN 38401 or The Alzheimer's Association, 4825 Trousdale Drive, Suite 220, Nashville, TN 37220. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Davidson County native was the daughter of the late Benjamin Ramsey McMurray and Gladys Bean McMurray. She was a graduate of Nashville Central High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree from George Peabody College for Teachers. On March 26, 1950 she married David Earl Locke who survives. Mrs. Locke was a member of The James K. Polk Association, Columbia Garden Club, and Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and had served as an Elder and a Deacon. In addition to her husband of sixty-three years, the loving wife and mother is survived by daughters, Jean McMurray Locke Ball and Sally Locke (Gene) Barr, both of Columbia; son, David Ramsey (Delisa) Locke of Franklin; grandchildren, Benjamin (Heather) Ball and Sarah Ball (Daniel) Holt, both of Nashville; Connor Locke (Lindsey) Ball, Reed McMurray Locke and William Ramsey Locke, all of Franklin; Gene Barr, Jr. and David Whitson Barr, both of Columbia; great grandchildren, Ellison McKinley Ball and Eli Alexander Ball, both of Franklin; sister, Joy McMurray Williams of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Benjamin Ramsey McMurray. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Steve Simmons, Karen Perry, P.A. and the staff of NHC Hillview.
