Mrs. Dorothy Jean "Mamaw" Roberts Sowers, 82, resident of Grayson Place, died Monday, June 24, 2013 at Maury Regional Medical Center. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 7:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Wendell Jump officiating. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. EST at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, officiated by Luke Gurchiek. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Knoxville native was the daughter of the late Daniel Newt Roberts, Sr. and Elizabeth Dyal Roberts. On May 18, 1952 she married Earl Franklin Sowers, Jr. who preceded her in death on March 7, 2003. She was a former resident of Royal Avenue in Seymour, TN before moving to Columbia to be with her daughter. Earlier in life she worked at Collins Food Mart and was employed as a secretary at Bill Fain, Attorney at Law both in Seymour. She also worked at Cas Walker Grocery and Bell South both in Knoxville. She loved reading mystery and suspense novels and enjoyed sports, especially University of Tennessee football and Atlanta Braves baseball. She was a member of Northview Church of Christ. Survivors include daughters, Diana Williams of Seymour, Jamie (Marty) Tyree of Columbia; grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Williams of Greenback, Clay (Melissa) Tyree of Dalton, Georgia, Megan (Luke) Gurchiek of Munford, Hynter Tyree of Columbia; seven great-grandchildren; and four nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sowers Wright, brother, Daniel Newt Roberts, Jr. and granddaughter, Cindy Diffie. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
