Ms. Jennifer Church Alley, 62, retired from Bell South Telephone Company and Maury Regional Medical Center and resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Kersey officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Ms. Alley was a native of the Cross Bridges Community, the daughter of Ona Sue Holden Church of Columbia and the late Joe Hollan Church. She was a 1966 graduate of Hampshire High School. After retiring from twenty-eight years of service with Bell South she worked as a docent for Rattle & Snap. In late September 2009 she retired from Maury Regional Medical Center after ten years as a switchboard operator. Ms. Alley was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She loved cross stitching and was very active in family geneology and antiquing. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant. Survivors in addition to her mother include her daughter, Dawn Woodard Potts of Columbia; sister, Faye Church Borum of Columbia; brother, H. Douglas (Frankie) Church, Sr. of Cross Bridges; grandson, Holden Potts of Columbia; granddaughter, Morgan Gordon (Tyler) Powell of Lewisburg; great-granddaughter Laila Rochelle Powell of Lewisburg; two aunts, Alice Garner of Mt. Pleasant, Opal Holden of Hampshire; an uncle, James Ross Holden of Mt. Joy; lifelong friend Linda Pilkinton of Columbia; close friend Lucy Spears of Mt. Pleasant; 3 nieces; 1 nephew; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers will be Holden Potts, Sonny Thomas, Steve Kindler, Joe Holden, Tracy Potts, Tyler Powell, Ray Holden and Wayne Garner. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Telephone Pioneers, past and present switchboard operators at Maury Regional Medical Center, Bobby Cecil, Reta Wood, Carolyn Craig, Linda Pilkinton and Lucy Spears.
