Jerry Wayne Lewis

Mr. Jerry Wayne Lewis, 69, retired from Occidental Chemical Corporation and Spontex Corporation, died Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his residence on New Highway 7. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Alexander and Bro. Dorris Rader officiating. Burial will be in Adkison Cemetery at a later date. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Carl John Lewis and Ruby Shouse Lewis and was a graduate of Santa Fe High School. In 1966 he married Barbara Jean Hughes Lewis who survives. He was an avid coon hunter and won several awards with his hunting dogs. He was a wonderful grandfather who adored his grandchildren. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Libby (Tim) Luther of Columbia; son, James "Jimmy" Lewis of Columbia; grandchildren Sean (Kayla) Luther, Shelby Luther; and brother, Cecil Lewis of Lawrenceburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Lewis and Nelson Lewis and a sister, Linda Baltzer. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Bolton, Jimmy Attkisson, John Stanfill, John Davis, Jr., Bud Luther, Terry Hughes, and former employees of Occidental Chemical Corporation and Spontex Corporation.
