Jerry Fred “Bud” Morton, 83, a resident of Columbia, died Friday, December 5, 2025 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Ronnie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Monday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Jerry was born on March 13, 1942 in Hickman County, TN to the late Hollis Morton and the late Isabelle Kelley Morton. He served in the United States Army. On July 16, 1962 he married Betty Gilliam Morton that preceded him in death on February 5, 1995. Jerry worked as a beer salesman for thirty three and half years with Ajax Turner Co. He enjoyed fooling with antique cars and earlier in life enjoyed wrestling. He was a long time member of Elmore Nazarene Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Freddie and Tammie Morton of Columbia; granddaughter Shelly Hill (Jimmy Stout) of Culleoka; two great granddaughters, Riley Hill and Johnna Hill; brother Johnny Ray Morton; sister Wanda Morton; special friend, caregiver and sister in law, Ann Morton; sister in law Ella Mae Pylant (Junior); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Morton and Chester Morton.
Active pallbearers will be Steve Morton, Cody Whitehead, Kyle Thomas, John Welch, Anthony Pylant, and Bennett Dowden.
