View Video TributeJerry Clark Nix, 82, retired bulldozer and heavy equipment operator and resident of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Muston officiating. Burial will follow in Knob Creek Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Born July 6, 1931 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Austin Montgomery Nix and Lula Mai Gidcomb Nix. On December 24, 1952 he married Carolyn Haywood. They were blessed with thirty-six years of marriage until her death in 1989. God then sent an angel into his life. On December 19, 1989 he married Frankie Lee Moser who survives. Mr. Nix served in the U. S. Army stationed in Hawaii during the Korean War. He retired from Smith Excavating & Trucking Company and was previously employed at Charles Taylor Enterprises for many years. Some of his favorite pastimes include reading, western movies and country music. He enjoyed genealogy research and Civil War history. He was a member of Knob Creek Baptist Church and had more recently worshipped with the Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jeri Ann "Jan" (Roger) Thompson of Columbia; Jeffery Haywood (Sandra) Nix of Hampshire; Cathey Lee Montgomery of Columbia; Russell (Linda) Montgomery of Summertown; and Guy Montgomery (Lisa Morris) of Lewisburg; sister, Bessie Lee Nix Shapiro of Columbia; grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson (Mitch) Hulsey, Christopher Lee Thompson, David Cates, Laura Pace (Shannon) Mitchell, Clint (Emily) Montgomery, and Justin Coleman; great grandchildren, Caroline Hulsey, Scarlett Hulsey, Presley Wise, Rainey Mitchell, Leah Montgomery, and Tevin Montgomery; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Odell Nix and Billy Nix. Active pallbearers will be Christopher Thompson, Mitch Hulsey, Harold Haywood, John L. Haywood, Ben Shapiro, John Shapiro, Doug Shapiro, Roland Shapiro, and Danny Moser. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond & Carolyn Simpson, Price & Joann Hunter, Central High School Hardee's Boy Group, Dr. John Simmons & Staff, and Cindy Farmer.
