View Video TributeJerry Glenn Oliver, Sr., 73, self-employed painter, former Columbia City Councilman and resident of Scribner Avenue, died Monday, November 17, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Tommy Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Culleoka native was the son of the late Herman Murphy Oliver and Myrtle Dugger Oliver. He was a 1960 graduate of Hay Long High School where he excelled in sports playing football and baseball. He attended Columbia State Community College. Mr. Oliver coached Pop Warner football for several years and he also enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his children, Jerry Glenn Oliver, Jr. of Gallatin; David Parrish (Tammie) Oliver of Shady Grove; Jonathan Paul (Jamie) Oliver of Manchester; sisters, Mary Etta Davis, Linda Dugger, Argie Oliver, and Connie Terry, all of Columbia; Cathy Sinden of Missouri; grandchildren, Brandi Oliver, Megan Oliver, Chelsie Maner, Makenzie Oliver, Zoe Oliver, Jack Oliver; mother of his children, Chestine Parrish Oliver; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Ray Oliver and Randy Steven Oliver; and a sister, Gracie Haywood. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will include his many friends at Kathy's and Bucky's Restaurants.
