View Video Tributes Jesse Boyd Williams, 89, former resident of Rock Springs Road and retired manager of Consumer and Spur gas stations in Columbia,died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Williams was making his home in Fayetteville at the time of his death. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Hardison Cemetery on Rock Springs Road with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:00 noon to service time at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be extended at oakesandnichols.com. Born in Maury County, he was the son of the late Henry Thomas Williams and Mary Etta Derryberry Williams. He attended Maury County schools and Columbia Business College. During World War II, he served in the 124th Infantry Regiment, Company G, U. S. Army with the rank of Corporal. Mr. Williams was a member of the Church of Christ. On November 16, 1946, he married the former Mary Evelyn Hardison. Their 47-year marriage ended with her death January 25, 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Florence Elaine Williams (George) Jett of Fayetteville; brothers, Elbert Loyd (Joyce) Williams of Lewisburg and Howard Thomas (Ruth) Williams of Columbia; grandchildren, George Jett of Pikeville, Mary (Mike) Burton of Kelso, Melissa (Steven) Beavers, Crystal (Dale) Cowan, Maggie Jett, and Madison Jett, all of Fayetteville; 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse B. Jett and sister, Bessie W. Wilhoite. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
