Jewel Sweeney Dawson

View Funeral Webcast Jewel Sweeney Dawson, 80, resident of School Street in Culleoka and retired employee of Maury Regional Hospital, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Oakes & Nichols with Randy Kersey officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Mount Cemetery. Mrs. Dawson was born in Maury County and reared in Culleoka, the daughter of the late William Carter Sweeney and Lola Mae Williams Sweeney. She was a 1948 graduate of Culleoka High School. On June 17, 1948 she married Leslie Howard Dawson, Jr. who preceded her in death October 22, 2000. She loved gardening, fishing with her husband andspending time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Mrs. Dawson was a member of Scribner's Mill Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons Jeff (Molly) Dawson and Terry (Becky) Dawson both of Culleoka; daughter Connie R. Dawson of Culleoka; brother Robert (Nell) Sweeney of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters Ruth Lentz of Hohenwald, Patty Johnson of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Brad Dawson, Chad Dawson, Jeremy Dawson, Dusty Dawson, Preston Dawson, Tyler Dawson, Becky Scroggins, Brent Harden; and nine great-grandchildren Savannah Dawson, Jacey Dawson, Abby Dawson, Logan Scroggins, Wesley Scroggins, Katie Scroggins, Devin Dawson, Dylan Dawson and Harley Dawson. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Kathy Ann Dawson; son Larry Ray Dawson; sister Brownie Hollaway; and two bothers W.C. Sweeney and Roy Sweeney. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Brad Dawson, Chad Dawson, Dusty Dawson, Jeremy Dawson, Brent Harden, Preston Dawson and Tyler Dawson.
